1. Preparation: Before the dental appointment, Dr. Mitchell will review your child’s medical history to ensure oral sedation is a safe option. We may instruct your child to avoid eating or drinking for a certain period before the procedure.
2. Medication Administration: Before the start of the dental treatment, your child will be given a prescription medication to take orally. This medication is typically a benzodiazepine, such as diazepam or lorazepam, which helps induce a state of relaxation and calmness.
3. Relaxation and Comfort: As the medication takes effect, your child will begin to feel more relaxed and at ease. They may experience drowsiness or dizziness.
4. Monitoring: Throughout the procedure, our dental team will closely monitor their vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels, to ensure their safety and well-being. We will also communicate with them to ensure your child remains comfortable and responsive.
5. Procedure: While your child will remain conscious and able to respond to verbal cues, they may feel detached from the dental experience and have limited memory of the procedure afterward. Dr. Mitchell will proceed with the necessary dental treatment while your child relaxes comfortably in the dental chair.
